Project Description

Joyce and Stephen Rigby, the wife (vineyard manager) and husband (winemaker) team at Boxwood Winery in Middleburg Virginia joined John Sporing, the founder of A Life Well Drunk for a virtual tasting on May 28th, 2020.

Did you miss the live virtual tasting? No worries, watch it here:

On May 28th we sipped and discussed three wines, including inaugural vintage of Sauvignon Gris:

2019 Boxwood Sauvignon Gris

2019 Boxwood Sauvignon Blanc

2019 Boxwood Rosé

A special three pack of these wines has been created for this tasting. The three-pack contains the rosé and sauvignon blanc in 375ml (half) bottles (perfect size for tasting) and a 750ml (full) bottle of the sauvignon gris. Of course, you can upgrade all to full bottles. Check out Boxwood’s website to order wines.

About the Winery

Boxwood Estate Winery is the fulfillment of a long-held dream by proprietor John Kent Cooke, former owner, and president of the NFL Washington Redskins. An admirer and collector of French wines, particularly great Bordeaux, Cooke and his team at Boxwood are committed to making premium red & white wines in the Bordeaux tradition, but with their own, distinct Virginia expression.

Boxwood Winery is in an area steeped in Revolutionary and Civil War history, and renowned for world-famous horse farms. Today the area is also known as a wine region (Middleburg AVA), with Virginia being the fifth largest wine producing state. The Boxwood sustainable vineyards occupy 26.5 acres of the historic landmark farm, and are planted with traditional Bordeaux varietals, predominantly Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Cabernet Franc & Sauvignon Blanc, all ENTAV certified.
