Meet the Maker
Meet Alexandra Bond, partner, and associate winemaker of Hector Wine Company. Since joining the winery in 2012, she worked her way from assistant to associate on the winemaking team and has since become a partner in the business. She started her journey with wine at a young age by way of work at restaurants and wine bars in and around New York City.
After discovering Finger Lakes wine in 2010, she decided to pursue her passion by moving to the region and getting her hands dirty. She worked at several wineries, in vineyards, tasting rooms and cellars, getting a taste of every aspect of the industry. In early 2012 she found herself with the opportunity to join Hector Wine Company in its budding years.
She owes her winemaking education within those years to her mentor, Justin Boyette, as well as to Louis Barroul of Forge Cellars and Chateau St. Cosme and other area winemakers such as Phil Arras of Damiani, Shaun Kime of Thirsty Owl and Michael Reidy of Hazlitt 1852 Vineyards. Alexandra is now in charge of the day to day winemaking year-round. She loves travelling, sailing, horseback riding and spending time with her husband, James, and their dog, cat and 15 chickens.
“We are a group of friends who are passionate about making inspired wine, working hard, and finding beauty. Together we make wines that represent the centuries old Sawmill Creek Vineyards, a legendary Finger Lakes farm that has seen generations of family make wine and farm alongside their loved ones.”
